Mukisa

Mukisa is a Congolese (DRC) visual artist based in Melbourne, working in oil, acrylic and photography.

Born to immigrant parents and raised in Perth, she moved to Melbourne after high school carrying with her a deep curiosity about where she came from and what that meant. Her paintings are portraits of people she knows and communities she belongs to, rendered in saturated, unapologetic colour.

Growing up in Australia, she became interested in the gap between how African communities are represented and how they actually live: with humour, style, tenderness and defiance. Her work closes that gap.

Mukisa works from her studio in Melbourne and sells directly to collectors. Original paintings and forthcoming prints can be explored through the catalogue.
